Albumin (Urine)

Microalbuminuria is a term to describe a moderate increase in the level of urine albumin. It occurs when the kidney leaks small amounts of albumin into the urine, in other words, when there is an abnormally high permeability for albumin in the renal glomerulus.

Reference Values: 

Normal: <25 mg/24 hours           
Suspicious: 25-65 mg/24 hours
Elevated: >65 mg/24 hours

Normal: <20 mg/L           
Suspicious: 20-52 mg/L
Elevated: >52 mg/L
